AFlame – Art for Fun

This site being my home base for everything I do that I feel like sharing, here is some art that I have done for fun. Enjoy!

Walking to the Trees

Walking to the Trees - Painting
Based on a photo from Katie’s phone of me walking with The Bean in the side yard of her parent’s house.

This was my first watercolor attempt in a long while. I’m pretty happy with the swirl in the sky, but wish I had more going on with the grass. Lastly, I tried out some splattering (a technique I saw on Youtube) for the trees.

Blue Home in Late Fall

Our new home! – with an imagined fence that might exist someday.

Sharpie sketch and watercolor.

What I was happy about: overall look (reminds me of some kids books), some of the textures, and the reflection/shadow of the tree in the front window.

What I could’ve done better: proportions. For example, the pitch of the roof is too steep, the front porch doesn’t line up on either side of the railing, and the spot light isn’t centered between the garage doors. I probably also would have had less going on in the background on the right, but more going on in the driveway (I was too nervous to try one of our cars or any people here).

I started to think I should have used a straight edge on it, like I attempted and failed at between the left windows. However, the more I think, am not sure that I would’ve liked the look of an “Architect drawing” as much as this sketch.
